Despite the lockdown due to COVID Biggar Ramblers have managed to get out and about in a limited way. We are now walking in groups again. First with groups restricted to 5 now the Scottish Government has announced that we can walk in larger groups.
Contact details will recorded for track and trace and will be kept by the Club Chairman for 21 days. Car sharing is not permitted and social distancing should be observed during the walk here are some reports of our first few walks.
16th July
Today we held the first walk after the lockdown restrictions were eased. 6 walkers (4 singles and 1 couple) met at Broughton Knowe to walk up through the woods and onto the open hillside to reach the ancient hill fort. Visibility was good all around with the familiar hills of Tinto, Culture Fell, Broad Law etc. easily seen on the skyline. The group were good at social distancing throughout the walk and indicated the current situation was readily accepted by walkers. There was concern before the meet-up if there would be enough parking for the walkers' cars which may be a factor in future walks. Brian Henry
25 July
Yesterday 3 walkers set out on the Windlestraw Law walk. The day stated out pouring with rain but when the actual walk began the sun was trying to break through. The route up was on a well used track fashioned by tractors and was a running stream. There was a light shower or 2 but nothing to spoil the day. At one point the visibility cleared to allow the group to see Arthur's Seat, The Eildons at Melrose and Fife, but it didn't last long. The distance walked was just under 6 miles and the total ascent was 1,400 feet.

Weather did not dampen out spirits today on the Ramble through Carmichael Estate. We passed 2 ruins, the duck pond, walked through the woods and the village. When the rain stopped, we had some nice views. It was a relatively easy, flat(wish) 7 miles. All agreed it was nice to be out with the group again after such a long time. Emily Rorke
